Inheritance of Mutations in phf21aa and kdm1a Genes, Which Affect Craniofacial Development in Zebrafish

Abstract

Diseases caused by errors in the very complex and necessary process of craniofacial development can seriously affect the quality of life of people who have them. The process of craniofacial development is controlled by many genes, such as phf21aa and kdm1a. Mutations in these genes are what result in errors, which may lead to severe craniofacial deformities. The inheritance of mutations affecting the craniofacial development of zebrafish, such as the ones in phf21aa and kdm1a, can be studied to better understand how certain diseases are caused in humans. This experiment analyzed the inheritance of phf21aa mutations in the F1 generation of embryos and the inheritance of kdm1a mutations in the F2 generation of zebrafish. The results showed that the mutations were inherited for both the phf21aa and kdm1a offspring.
