Automating the Palletizing of Egg Cartons for CostCo With the Collaboration of Multiple Companies

Chasity Waldron

Abstract

The biggest buyer of eggs in the United States is Costco, a bulk-sales company. However, the process of packaging cartons of eggs in bulk is not fully automated. Currently, the process of loading pallets with egg cartons is done manually. The purpose of this project was to assess the feasibility of a fully automated palletizing system. The cardboard packaging had to be redesigned while considering factors such as display capabilities, structural integrity, ability to be case erected, ability to be lifted by the current MOBA gripper, output speed, and corrugate waste.
