Abstract

This study's objective is to look further into the problems concerning offshore wind turbines and help improve those problems. Putting a wind turbine right down into the ocean does not consider environmental problems that get in the way of the offshore wind turbines ability to perform well, so by helping optimize the wind turbine the turbine can be better equipped for the ocean environment. By doing a lab set up of a simulation with an industrial miniature turbine the turbine can be optimized to work better. Different designs of blades for the turbines are used including vertical axis wind turbine designs (vawt). LIttle by little change the setup of the original simulation to see if the changes are a positive or negative view while viewing the voltage to determine those views. Results conclude that floating device helps the turbine stay balanced and certain blades affect how effective float works. The highest the floating wind turbine could reach was 5.12 in an average rather than a (vawt) that could not even create voltage. The floating device helps the wind turbine work better with the environment below. Also the floating device helps the design be balanced in the environment. The Best design that has worked so far in the experiments was the long skinny blade that not only was easier to balance but gave off more voltage. Further into this study more research and simulations of the (vawt) will be used along with the environment above the turbine.
