Student will present an analysis of service encounters at a small corner store in rural Nicaragua (utilizing audio-recorded data). The analysis will center on variation in the use of greetings, request sequences, and leave-takings by both customers and the shopkeeper. The presentation may also include a preliminary comparative analysis of service encounters in the Greenville community. The student is currently working approximately 10 hrs/week as a research assistant to Professor Jeff Michno in accordance with guidelines approved by Erik Ching, Director of Undergraduate Research.
