Description

The David E. Shi Center operates a home weatherization program for lower income households in the Greenville area. This program, the Community Conservation Corps (CCC), helps members of our community save money on their energy bills, emit less carbon and live in healthier indoor environments. The CCC accomplishes this by providing home improvements focused on reducing energy waste, improving air quality and home safety. A partnership with Habitat for Humanity allows us to use volunteer labor and provides ways for Furman community members. This program is unique and provides an excellent case study for weatherization programs. As part of Avery Slifer's year long Fellowship with the program, she is working on a white paper that will delineate the best practices used in this program and compare it to other similar programs. As a result of this research, she has gained a working knowledge of best practices for weatherization programs and will share that knowledge in this presentation.
