Abstract
Handwritten notes taken by James Wilson from a lecture by Doctor Hugh Blair, who served as the Regius Professor of Rhetoric and Belles Lettres at the University of Edinburgh from 1762-1784. His appointment marked the beginning of the teaching of English Literature at Edinburgh University and the birth of the oldest English department in the world.
