Abstract
The purpose of the Heathing and Cooling Compression Sleeve is to prevent shin splints. The goal of the project is to give student the access needed to have heating and cooling to help with shin splints. Shin splints are an overuse injury along the tibia that affects over 3 milllion athletes. The heating and cooling compression sleeves would provided the treatment as well as prevention for shin splints. The heat dilates blood vessels, increases blood flow, relaxes muscles, and relieves soreness. The cooling reduces pain, swelling, blood flow and nubs sore tissues. This product will also help to prevent an athlete from getting shin splints. The heating and cooling compression sleeve will take a normal compression sleeve and add a heating and cooling component to it. The heating and cooling componet will be added by using a peltier plate. Athletes can volunteer to test out the product. For any athlete participating they will be asked to complete a survey. The survey will contain questions including: does the compression sleeve heat and cool, is it comfortable, and what other areas need heating and cooling. THe resonese form the survey will then be used to redesign the product. The heating and cooling compression sleeve will be considered successful if it does each of the following: contains a heating and cooling system, is easily seitched between the two, and is comfortable while exercising
