Abstract
This project is aimed to help people with PEG feeding tubes eat with a sense of privacy in public so they can feel comfortable using feeding tube in public. It is important because a major problem that is associated with feeding tubes is people feeling uncomfortable using the feeding tubes in public. This project is designed as a vest that will contain the feeding tube syringe and tubing inside of the vest with gravity feeding, so it will be concealed from the public and people will feel more comfortable using it in public. This project will be different from other regular gravity feeding tubes because it will incorporate the sense of privacy, rather than just help with the use of gravity feeding tubes. The methods of creating the vest will be to have the feeding tube syringe secured inside of the vest, and the tubing of the syringe flows directly into the feeding tube port on the inside of the vest. When testing the vest, the independent variable is the position of the tubing to test which would provide the fastest and most efficient flow rate of formula. Under the preliminary testing, the product works with an average flow rate time of 1 minute and 45 seconds per 60 mL of formula. This product is significant because it will add a sense of confidence to people and allow them to feel a sense of security while continuing on with their normal life.
