Abstract
With nutrition becoming increasingly important in daily life, food companies have begun to make products that are considered "healthy." These products have begun to multiply and it seems as if there are too many products to choose from. This study examines five different protein bars and tries to determine the best protein bar based off of price, availability, and nutritional value. In order to determine the nutritional value, the protein bars were shipped to Food Safety Net Services to be tested in six different categories, such as protein combustion. The results from Food Safety Net Services were then made into a weighted score for each bar. There were mixed results from each test. The Gatorade protein bars were the cheapest and had the highest nutritional value, and Clif protein bars were the most readily available. On the flip side, Rise bars had the lowest nutritional value, and Quest bars were the most expensive and the least available. Due to the average cost of each bar, the availability, and the highest nutritional value weighted score, the best bar was concluded to be the Gatorade Protein Bars. The final rankings for the protein bars was Gatorade first, Clif second, Detour third, Rise fourth, and Quest fifth.
