Abstract
Every year thousands of women join the #metoo movement in order to speak their story. Ever since the movement gained momentum in 2014 it has grown rapidly both in size and in support. Sometimes, however, the women are met with no support in exchange for sharing. This lack of support often leads to victim blaming, which is when victims of a crime blame themselves for what happened. The people that don't support the women have various reasons. Throughout the years the two groups have come to light, the conservative and the liberals. The conservative believe more in letting the person stand by themselves and forcing them to recover faster, so that they can stand on their own feet. The liberals believe in supporting people through the end. The purpose of this research project was to analyze the tweets posted by various media outlets, for their sentiment. The media outlets were chosen based on surveys completed by Amy Mitchell, Jeffrey Gottfried, Jocelyn Kiley, and Katerina Eva Matsa in cooperation with Pew Journalism. The results of this project reveal that there is an inherent bias in the way that news publications tweet. Publications that have been previously labeled as conservative tend to be a little less supportive, and therefore have negative tweets surrounding the problem.
