Abstract

Within the modern-day courtrooms in the United States, any and all information presented to the jury can be critical to the case. This includes the presentation of evidence. There are several methods to present evidence to the jury but an emerging, effective method is the timeline axis. It constitutes putting timed data in chronological order to present the case as a timeline. While this method is effective, it is incredibly time consuming and prone to error. With the recent development of AI chatbots, the time consuming role can be bypassed. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the feasibility of using GPT 3.5 to create a timeline axis of various crimes that would be, or have been, presented to a jury. It was hypothesized that the machine would perform accurately enough to be deemed reasonable for this use. The data sets used to test the machine ranged from national crises such as nine-eleven, to prominent serial killers such as Richard Ramirez, and international spies such as Robert Hanssen. It was determined that the machine was accurate enough to be considered for real world use.
