About SLINKI-SLISE

Professors Jim Michnowicz (NC State) and Hillary Barnes (Fayetteville State) hosted the inaugural SLINKI (Spanish in North Carolina) Conference in 2011. Since then, this group of faculty and student researchers has met annually, which has resulted in many fruitful discussions and collaborations among scholars of Hispanic linguistics in the US Southeast. Mirroring the growth of Spanish speakers in the much of the region, the SLINKI community has likewise expanded in the past decade. SLINKI has been held at a variety of institutions primarily in North Carolina, and now twice in South Carolina. See the list of past conferences.

To include and encourage even more innovative research of linguistic phenomena in the southeastern US, this iteration of SLINKI will be called SLISE (Spanish in the Southeast). We warmly welcome you to join the conversation this February, and we are excited for how our scholarly community will continue to evolve.
