Description / Abstract
Proposal written by Nick Radel, Furman faculty member and co-chair of The Women's and Gender Studies Oversight Committee. Proposal: At the Women's and Gender Studies Retreat last fall, the Oversight Committee, along with other WGS Faculty members in attendance, agreed unanimously that the name of the Women's and Gender Studies Concentration should be changed to Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies so that the Concentration title might reflect better the work we presently do as well as focusing our attention on the need to develop the study of sexuality in ways consistent with work being done at comparable liberal art colleges across the United States. In keeping with present policy of creating three-letter acronyms for departments and concentrations at Furman, we propose that the acronym for WGS remain the same, but that in the future all extended spellings of the Concentration title be styled WGS: Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.
