Abstract
The purpose of this experiment is to create a product that will allow people who use lofstrand (forearm) crutches to transport open containers of liquid. Since the hands of people who require the use of lofstrand are occupied, they are unable to hold a cup while they walk from one destination to another. To make the GyroCup, a gyroscope will first need to be made. A cup holder will then be placed in the center of the gyroscope. This will be placed inside of a watertight capsule that has a strap secured to the top portion of it. The GyroCup will be carried by having the user wrap the strap around the handle of their crutch and then place their hand over the strap to keep it in place. While it could be used by anyone that requires the use of lofstrand crutches, this product is being made specifically for my sister to be able to carry mugs of tea, so she will be the test subject during the duration of this experiment. To test it, she will place a graduated cup of water in the device and then will proceed to walk twenty feet. The amount of water spilled will be measured. If there is any spillage, the device will be reconfigured to reduce the amount of water that is spilled while walking. The product will be considered a success if she is able to walk twenty feet with a full cup with no liquid spilled.
