Senator Sumner is the man for Fusion Candidate for President. He has suffered more for the cause than any other living man. He is a scholar as well as a martyr. Fremont is neither. Sumner, too, according to all the Fusion papers, is the first great man of that party that has exactly hit the Fusion nail on its head. His speech embodies, without adulteration or dilution, the same pure sentiments of the party. Let him be nominated. "The blood of the martyrs is the seed of the church."

There is another advantage to be gained by his nomination. Make the issue personal between Sumner & Brooks -- Sumner the martyr, and Brooks, the bully. That would be about as fair an issue as that party will dare make. They have done talking about the repeal of the Fugitive Slave Law, abolishing the Naturalization Laws, repealing the Nebraska Law, &c., &c. All is hushed on the subjects. The nation is to be convulsed on some little side issue, and why not have it Sumner vs. Brooks. There is no doubt that nineteen-twentieths of the people would vote against Brooks.
