Description

The Sub-Librarians joined The Red Circle of Washington for drinks and dinner at the National Press Club. Marsha Pollak was unable to attend due to a major library renovation in California, and Maxine Reneker very capably stood in to host the program with Peter Blau. Toasts were given by visiting Sub-Librarians and locals: Lomax by Rosemary Michaud, Sherlock Holmes by Frank Sadowsky, Hill Barton by Barbara Lattimer, Baron Gruner by Eugenia Ryner and 221B by Ray de Groat.

Our senior Sub-Librarian, Francine Morris Swift, spoke about the "Good Old Days of the Sub-Librarians." Francine followed founder John Bennett Shaw as Chair. She attended her first Sub-Librarians meeting at the second gathering of the Sub-Librarians in 1968 in Kansas City, Missouri.

Gayle T. Harris, retired librarian from the Library of Congress, spoke about "Skeletons in the Stacks" and Peter Blau's topic was "Insights and Revelations on the World of Sherlockian Scholarship and Conviviality."

The meeting closed with a read of "221B."
